Working with children check (WWCC)

West Beach SLSC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person who takes part in our activities, programs, events or services

South Australia has introduced stronger, transparent and more effective screening laws for people working or volunteering with children. The .Working with Children Checks (WWCC) was introduced to help keep children safe in our community and are FREE for volunteers in South Australia and are issued by the Department of Human Services (DHS).

A WWCC is valid for a period of 5 years

  • It is a requirement for all members aged 14 or over to have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) before their application to join or renew a membership with West Beach Surf Life Saving Club is accepted. This includes members who are parents/carers of junior members.

Membership renewal/joining applications can be submitted but will remain pending until a valid WWCC has been received.

The only exceptions to this are :

    • Life members and Tin Shedders who are not involved in regular lifesaving club activities

    • Non-Active Supporter Members – Bar & Function Area access only, and want to be part of the West Beach Surf Club Community but not be involved in any regular lifesaving club activities

    • If you work with SA Police or Australian Federal Police

If you are unwilling to complete WWCC requirements, we will be unable to accept your membership application to become a member of West Beach Surf Life Saving Club.

If you are not intending or required to be involved in any regular lifesaving club activities, you will be able to apply for a Non-Active Supporter Membership and be part of the West Beach Surf Club Community.

  • WWCC are free for West Beach SLSC members.

    • Once the application is lodged, you will receive an activation email from the Department of Human Services. You must respond to this within 28 days of receipt. If you haven’t received the email, check your junk mail.

    • You will require 100 points of ID to complete verification online.

Once the application is complete, your WWCC screening will be listed on the DHS data base. The DHS will notify the club and your details will be recorded in the Surf Life Saving Australia data base.
