Nippers and Youth

Welcome to West Beach for 2023 - 2024

We hope your family will join us to enjoy the fun, fitness & community spirit of our Junior & Youth programs this summer.

Nippers Program: Under 6 - Under 13

Our Nippers program focuses on play, participation and fun.  Your child will progress through the age groups, they will learn and participate in wading, running, ocean swimming, board paddling and lifesaving skills, as well as learning the basics of resuscitation and first aid.

Youth Program: Under 14- Under 18

When the nippers program has been completed, your child will be ready to undertake their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and become a qualified Surf Lifesaver who can patrol our beaches and serve the community. From here, when your child reaches the age of 15, they can undertake the Bronze Medallion, which will give them additional skills, including CPR. Practising these skills allows children to compete in branch, regional and state surf and National lifesaving carnivals representing their clubs.

  • Nipper Fact Sheet - SLSSA 2021

  • Please choose from the age groups link for the age relevant program for your child. These are allocated according the SLSA guidelines and are based on your child's age as at 30th September.

The junior surf life saving program at West Beach SLSC is run entirely by VOLUNTEERS.

Almost all of our volunteers are parents just like you who have put their hand up to help their children & our club.

All hold relevant qualifications and skills for their role, including a DHS (Working with Children) clearance.

Many hands make light work so we encourage all families to get involved.

Whether it’s coaching a team, setting up the equipment, selling the uniforms or cooking the sausages, there is definitely lots of ways for you to get involved.
