Pink & Blue - 10 February 2024

In 2024 the event will be run from our Brand new clubrooms!

In 2013, the Pink Swim first started and has since evolved to encompass support for both Breast & Prostate Cancers and has also expanded to include a walk and now a run. Over the years the recipients of our funds raised have included:

  • Breast Cancer Network of Australia

  • National Breast Cancer Foundation

  • Cancer Council of SA

  • Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia

  • St Andrews Hospital Breast Care Unit

100% of ticket entries are donated equally between our Breast & Prostate Cancer beneficiaries and to date we have raised over $500,000. This has assisted people affected by breast and prostate cancer in some of the following ways:

  • Research in particular the Evolution Program with PCFA trial on 2 South Australian Men

  • Purchase of a Gamma Probe which is used to enable breast surgeons to identify, during a biopsy, the sentinel (lymph) node/s to be removed and assessed.

  • Breast Cancer Patient Lounge

  • Breast Cancer Treatment Room and Drain Bags – this room is a private purpose-built facility for breast cancer patients to meet with nursing staff for counselling, dressing changes, wound and drain care and the provision of post-operative garments, prosthesis and surgical aids

History of the Pink and Blue

Originally called the Pink Swim, the event was first run in 2013 shortly after high vis pink vests became compulsory for all surf life savers, when training and in the water. We had a few members diagnosed with breast cancer that year and we thought that we would turn pink vests, into pink caps and call for donations in support of these members, during for our regular Saturday club swim, naming it, the Pink Swim. We had 80 swimmers in the water that year a huge demand to turn it into an event the following…and the rest they say is history.
